space-machine theatre - sets and architecture

The exhibition focuses on the architectural foundations for the reation of artificial worlds, of acting spaces and architectural fantasies in the field of the medium of theatre. The approaches presented are diverse: from the longitudinal sections and ground plans of the Paris Opéra Garnier to the political and abstract stage sets in the theatre of the Weimar Republic and utopian theatre designs such as the Total Theatre of Walter Gropius or the demolition, rebuilding and renovation of Cologne theatres after the war.
